Programs
Our programs improve emotional, social, and physical health. Through direct interaction, peer-to-peer counseling techniques, occupational therapy, and camaraderie, this program is designed to empower Veterans by replicating the positive aspects of the military community and reinforcing the same team-building skills they are familiar with. These kayaks serve as a tool to heal through focus and creativity in a welcome and open environment. We have worked with combat Veterans, physically and psychologically injured, and homeless Veterans.

Kayak

This program involves 4-6 participants per build and is designed to be 2-4 hour sessions, 2-3 days a week, over 10-12 weeks. A typical day starts with house rules, followed by a work session, then light refreshments and 30 minutes Q&A, then another work session, and concludes with a shop cleanup. Current participants range from age 22-75. This build is volunteer-led by trained Veteran project leaders, and has paid Veteran peer support technicians that help oversee the program. There is no charge for our Veteran participants- the materials, supplies, tutorials, and end result kayak and paddle are free.
Arts

Many Veterans find that various forms of Art Therapy help them begin to heal from the trauma they experienced in the military. Most of the Veterans who have experienced some form of trauma in the military are often diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or other forms of mental health disorders. Art therapy helps Veterans pour their emotions and feelings into creating art, whether it be painting, woodwork, photography, or drawing. This expression through art therapy helps Veterans temporarily relieve their negative thoughts.

Yoga

Yoga has been shown to reduce PTSD symptoms in the civilian population, but few studies have tested the impact of yoga on veterans of post-9/11 conflicts. The purpose of this study is to test the impact of yoga on post-9/11 veterans diagnosed with PTSD.
Ukulele

Music can be a powerful tool for healing and supporting veterans, particularly those dealing with PTSD and other mental health challenges. Our program is open to both Veterans and their families.
Wellness Activities

Wellness initiatives help veterans by addressing both their physical and mental health, promoting resilience, and facilitating a smoother transition to civilian life. These programs often include fitness, nutritional advice, mental health support, and social connection opportunities, helping veterans manage conditions like PTSD and depression, reduce stress, and improve their overall well-being. Currently we offer bicycle rides, walks, hikes, and outdoor mindfulness.
Creative Writing

Creating a story, a poem, or a song are powerful ways for veterans to transform their feelings into something they can share. The writing process provides the opportunity to discover meaningful ways to communicate those experiences to the world.
Closet

Our closet provides new and gently loved items to our Veterans and their families. be sure to visit our free store!
Coffee Hour

Coffee can be a powerful tool for building camaraderie by providing a relaxed setting for conversation and connection, whether in social or professional settings. It encourages open discussions, sharing of ideas, and the forging of new relationships. The act of sharing a coffee in with us can spark conversations and create a sense of community.
Support Groups

Veteran peer-to-peer support groups offer numerous benefits, including reduced isolation, improved mental health, access to resources, and a sense of community. These groups provide a safe space for veterans to share their experiences, offer mutual support, and build lasting connections.
Veteran Track

Veterans Treatment Courts offer several benefits to eligible veterans facing criminal charges, providing an alternative to traditional incarceration and promoting rehabilitation and recovery. Key benefits include reduced recidivism rates, increased access to mental health and substance abuse treatment, improved housing and employment outcomes, and better overall well-being. Our peer mentors work directly with the Veteran, Court, Veteran Service agency, prosecution, and defense attorneys as they continue their journey of healing.
